2005 Recipient

Jeanne Goddard Memorial Award

The Jeanne Goddard Memorial Award was established in 2003 to recognize those women who have supported and encouraged the game of golf in Utah.  Cricket Nelson was honored as the 2005 Jeanne Goddard Memorial Award recipient.

The year’s recipient of the Jeannie Goddard Memorial Award is a lady who over the last 35 to 40 years has dedicated herself to the game of golf. Not by just playing the game, playing for fun or playing and competing, it is her love and respect for the game.

She is a true “leader” – A true leader that had the confidence to stand-alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the need of others. She did not set out to be a leader, but became one by the quality of her actions and integrity of her intent. She believes in teamwork – the ability to work together towards a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments towards organizational objectives. Over the last 35 plus years, she has held every position on the USWGA Board at least once, if not more.

President, Vice President, Treasurer, Handicap Chairperson, Team Captain, State Amateur Chairperson, Senior State Amateur Chairperson, State Best Ball Chairperson, and there is only one position she didn’t hold Secretary. At her home club – East Bay she has held numerous positions as well.

Her opinion is respected and is called upon continuously. It is an honor and privilege to present this year’s Jeannie Goddard Memorial Award to Cricket Nelson. A lady that is everything that the Jeannie Goddard Memorial Award stands for.
